Balaji, Pretraj Sarkar and Bhairav Baba: The Three Deities of Mehandipur
When you walk into Mehandipur Balaji Temple, you meet not one but three deities. Devotees believe they work together to protect and heal everyone who comes with faith.
Shri Balaji Maharaj
Balaji is Lord Hanuman in his child form. The main idol, which devotees believe appeared on its own from the hill, is the heart of the temple. People pray to Balaji for strength, courage and freedom from sankat (troubles). The cry of "Jai Shri Balaji" fills the temple all day.
Shri Pretraj Sarkar
Pretraj Sarkar is seen as the king of spirits. Devotees believe he controls negative forces and frees people from their hold. He has his own shrine inside the temple, where special offerings are made.
Shri Kotwal Bhairav Baba
Bhairav Baba is called the Kotwal of Balaji's court. A kotwal was the town's chief of police, and that is how devotees see him: the one who keeps order and carries out Balaji's commands.
How devotees pray to all three
A visit is complete only after praying to all three. Offerings such as Darkhast and Arzi are made at each shrine in turn. Most families first take darshan of Balaji, then move on to Pretraj Sarkar and Bhairav Baba.
A gentle reminder
Mehandipur Balaji is a place of deep faith. Some people here may be going through very hard moments. Move calmly, keep your phone away and treat everyone around you with kindness.
